If you’re a chocolate lover, this homemade fudge frosting is about to become your new obsession! Rich, creamy, and irresistibly decadent, it’s the perfect topping for cakes, cupcakes, brownies—or even just by the spoonful (Don't ask me how I know! 😉). This easy-to-make recipe will have you ditching store-bought frosting forever. Get ready to take your desserts to the next level with a fudge frosting you’ll want to put on everything!
Here's What You'll Need:
(This recipe will make about 2 cups of frosting which is enough to frost a 9x13 cake or a 13x18 sheet pan of brownies. If you're frosting a smaller cake, cut the recipe in half. If you're frosting a larger cake, double it.)
1/3 cup butter
2/3 cup cocoa powder
2 2/3 cup powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
How to Make Homemade Fudge Frosting
Melt the butter in a small saucepan. Once the butter is melted, add the cocoa powder and stir well until combined. Turn down the heat and set it aside. The cocoa and butter mixture should be very thick—like a paste.
Allow it to cool for a few minutes and transfer it to a mixing bowl.
Then, add in the milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Using a hand mixer, mix the ingredients until they're smooth and creamy and all the powdered sugar has been incorporated. Add a little more powdered sugar to adjust the consistency of the frosting. You should have a smooth and thick but spreadable frosting.
Frost your brownies, cake, or cupcakes, and enjoy! Oh, and be sure to lick the spoon!
